 5012.      Cancer sucks big time!!!

Sorry to hijack, my Nana found out she had cancer sometime last yr, she has it in her lymph nodes, ovaries, something in her spleen and has a growth in her stomach which cant be taken out, shes had 2 lots of chemo and man shes amazing, doesn seem to get too upset etc, shes a mighty strong lady!!Now please pleae excuse me as I dont want to offend anyone, but what I'm struggling with is why do itty bitty kids get sick with this monster??why do they have to suffer so much in such a small lifetime???I know its sad all round whichever age ppl get it, but well I'm rambling now :) just rips my heart out thats all!!Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!!I must go blow my nose now lol very emotional day today :)

pixie810 (87 )    9:39 pm, 14 Jul

 5013.      Thanks jessikah1 ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    9:40 pm, 14 Jul

 5014.      hi pixie810

thanks for the post, that is a question I ask myself sometimes and I cant answer, but I do beleive that in my sons case he is here to teach us something compassion, strength, laughter and alot to do with his disease.Hes a magnet and adults love him he has taught them alot sometimes without even opening his mouth or meeting them personally.

bogeyi (484 )    9:44 pm, 14 Jul

5015.      Sorry to hear about your nana pixie

Its an unfortunate fact of modern life that a huge perecntage of us will eventually die from this monster. Why some get it and some don't is beyond me, glad to see there are researchers trying to find the answers. Living and eating healthily is a good start but sadly no guarantee. Its a case of appreciating your health while you have it, and not taking a single day for granted ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    9:45 pm, 14 Jul

 5016.      thanks

and sorry again for hijacking!!I'm planning on going to visit her soonish (she lives in lower hutt) in case her time runs out, but thanks for ur comments, I just know of a couple of dear wee souls who have been inflicted with this horror and it really sucks, I hate it, but I've turned into a major emotive person lol could be the gettin older thing and tryin to work out why theres so much horror and disaster in the world!!Anyway thanks and nite all!!By the way, I think this is an excellent thread too!

Í have pushed the tray thingee in as far as it will go but it's not 'grabbing. My guess something inside is broken. Not to worry, they are not too expensive now. They told me on the computing thread they are easy to install yourself...yeah right!!

joystik (283 )    12:12 am, 15 Jul

5033.      I just wanted to say Hi and Thankyou!

Congrats on getting to the 5000. I've been reading since about 2500 somewhere. The reason is not because I suffer from this horrible illness but to try and understand my how my sister feels a little more. My sister is Meridian1 by the way. I still feel you can't fully understand unless you have been through it yourself. I am just so greatful to you all for the support you gave her in her last scare. I was scared so I could never imagine how she felt and in reading this, I now have some idea. You are a bunch of lovely, supportive people. Each and every one of you is so very unselfish. Willing to support others when you are hurting so much yourselfs. All I can say is, thank you all so much for a million things and - ROLL ON 10000!!!!!!!!!!

lurene (324 )    8:23 am, 15 Jul

 5034.   Awww thanks Lurene :o)

Yes we were so thrilled for Meridian1 when the results came back - with my history, I couldn't help to expect the worst, but I know I am the exception and try to keep some perspective ;o) Its so cool for her, and she is such a honey. I really hope you both celebrated the good news - its truly worthy of celebration! Thanks for posting :o)

soniat-d (153 )    9:01 am, 15 Jul

 5035.   Thanks again everyone :o)

Its true what Dize5 says about the angy red face (hey, its certainly how I felt at the time!) certainly does make it easy to find! You guys will have to keep it rolling while I'm in Fiji - not sure if I'll be able to log in while there or not LOL

soniat-d (153 )    9:06 am, 15 Jul

 5036.      Morning

She is unconscious now, what a fight she has put up. now it is nearing the end. I am going to give my darlings extra cuddles today. Love to you all xoxoxoxoxoxxox

paulaxx (77 )    12:30 pm, 15 Jul

5053.    I'll give you some when you come up here ;o)

I still have spares ;o) I order mine in lots of 10s from the american breast cancer website (thebreastcancersite dot com) when I can't get them here. Breast cancer week/month is coming up very soon (I know that because it came up right when I was first diagnosed!) so they should resurface in shops then. My m-i-l and s-i-l wear theirs all night and day (in shower etc) and they fade to white really quickly. I put mine on after shower and take off before bed and they last much longer ;o)

 5057.       I am going

to Helen Brown's one-woman show tonight called "A Slice of Banana Cake". For those who do not know, she is a famous NZ newspaper columnist, writes a monthly colum for "Next" magazine and has written books. She currently lives in Melbourne but comes back to NZ often. She is hilarious. She is donating most of the proceeds of her show to Hospice. Should be a good night. My middle daughter is coming with me. Has anyone seen this show? She did it in NZ last year too.

The girls did the washing and hung it out for me and got it in again! Life is such a pleasure isnt it?? I was good and opted not to go partying tonight, at the neighbours son's 21st, just in case there were lots of free germs hanging about.

joystik (283 )    9:01 pm, 15 Jul

 5092.       Joystik

This is going to sound a bit sad, but we all know this is just how it is at the moment. We asked Cass tonight what she loved the most about these holidays and the poor lamb couldnt remember doing anything really that memorable. Proably because she hasnt! But as Josh has been sick we told her that Auckland trip coming up was going to make up for all that. yes Chris went after Ducks, got another 7 for the freezer.

paulaxx (77 )    9:09 pm, 15 Jul

5093.       Hello Sonia...we'll look after this for you while

you are off in Fiji. We should be well past 10000 before you go shouldnt we? Thats still a month away isnt it? Glad you have been doing some fun things with the girls for the holidays. It so disrupts the routine doesnt it? I even have to share my computer with Lauren and thats not always what I want either!! I am thankful that I m getting through this chemo so well though...I feel like such a fraud at times after what I was told it would be like. Do you think they have given me the wrong stuff??? Special hugs Sonia to you....

joystik (283 )    9:09 pm, 15 Jul

5094.       No Paula, I can only run from here for about 5 min

5096.       Hi Boop, nice to see you back again. Did you have

a cracker day like we did today? It was really foggy first thing but cleared away about 10ish and was just supremeo! We spent the day cruising and visiting, and Lauren and Laura did the house work. Now, how much better can life be than that?? Yes, Sherri hates CHCH. I think they've gone to Nelson for a week, so you might see them on the way home. Hugs to you and see you tomorrow xxxxx

Is it a good recipe he uses?? The easiest one is that one with the can of lemonade and bottle of cream. Do you make that one?? The lady made fruit salad muffins, where we had lunch and they were delicious. Typical Farmers wife, made about 10 trays full of them. And then just whipped up a pizza for lunch which was delicious too.. Hope all is going to plan with you guys anyway Bogeyi, and you are all keeping germ and bug free. Take care and keep on smiling. Hugs to you all xxxxx

 5123.         Hi folks

The Helen Brown show was lovely. She does a column every week in the Waikato Times, and one each month in the "Next" magazine, and I know she is syndicated in lots of other NZ newspapers. She is from Taranaki. Her show made us laugh and made us cry. It is really her life story, called "A Slice of Banana Cake". She gives all the profits to Hospice, and is doing 8 venues. They told us tonight that the Hospice Opportunity shops all around NZ make a combined profit of $300,000 per year. That is great, isn't it, as they do marvellous work.

dize5 (469 )    10:54 pm, 15 Jul

5134.      Hi all well we've had a fabulous morning :o)

We met a friend of mine and her 2 girls in Howick, at the Howick Historical Village (which I never knew existed) for a childrens day. Wish I'd taken my camera! It was soooooooo awesome! Highlight was a fantastic puppet show (girls got to have turns with the puppets which were amazing), we also sat in an old classroom with our slates and a teacher gave us a lesson, people dressed up in period attire, even soldiers doing practise rounds, horseshoe throwing, etc etc etc. How come we've never heard of this place before? Thank heavens my friend had ;o) Girls resting now - they had a ball :o)

soniat-d (153 )    2:44 pm, 16 Jul

5135.         hi all we are home

Em's lying down still too - I feel like joining her - just too exciting LOL Hope Ryan's fine, we all need a lie-down every now and again ;o) WHAT A BEAUT DAY! Feel like dancing in the sunshine - when's the last day we had a day like this? :o)

soniat-d (153 )    3:59 pm, 16 Jul

 5137.         Hi everyone....

just caught up on Corrinas passing and having a cry! Why does this monster have to take the wee ones! Radiation is going well, 3 out of 5 weeks over now. Got a rash in crease under my breast and boy is it itchy. Classic symptoms apparently for those that haven't had a mastectomy. Been warned will probably have cracked by end of treatment so thats lovely to look forward to. Otherwise hanging in there really well. Got off some horrible pills and been feeling heaps better this week.

landylass (48 )    5:48 pm, 16 Jul

5138.         OK wee plug here...

Here's the puppet guy that we saw at the village this morning - he was simply awesome, and does birthday parties, kindy/school events etc. http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/46/24311146_full.jpg and http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/84/24311184_full.jpg ... See him at dud dub dub dot puppetman dot co dot nz ;o) Emily was enthralled and cheered enthusiastically as each puppet did a trick etc (Clown juggled balls, a trapeze artist spun from his hands to hanging from his legs etc). Kids up to 10 all seemed to think it was awesome, actually I did too ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    5:49 pm, 16 Jul

5139.         Do they give you heaps of dressings Landylass

so you can slather on the cream and leave it thick on youur skin? Will help the itching and avoid the cracking ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    5:50 pm, 16 Jul

5140.         Miss 16 came down on bus

on thursday night to stay with me and we shopped until we dropped on Friday! Boy does that kid know how to shop. Hubby and mr14 were in Ranfurly on Thursday and texted me they were nearly home before I met miss16 off the bus. Got the shock of my life when she opened the door of car and her brother was standing behind her. Then turned round and hubby was hanging in the drivers window! They had cut down thru Middlemarch to meet up and go out for tea so I had been conspired against. Was lovely surprise.

landylass (48 )    5:51 pm, 16 Jul

5141.         Away to get the bag packed

again and haven't had time to read the last 1000 posts!!!! I see above Josh is still battling temps, hope he is better soon Paula as you want him right before heading to Auckland. Hope there is no one else battling at the moment. Hugs to everyone.

landylass (48 )    5:54 pm, 16 Jul

5142.         Yeah Sonia I have been absolutley

plastering on the cream since day 1 after hearing what you went thru. I have tried aloe vera instead of the other cream over weekend and its better but will stir up again I guess with more radiation tomorrow. How are you as I haven't had time to read all the posts. The weekend just goes so quick!

landylass (48 )    5:57 pm, 16 Jul

 5143.      Am good thanks Landylass

Can still feel the lumps but at least they don't feel like they're growing - putting all hope in Vitamin C infusions at the mo. The radiated (and lumpy) area had all sorts of twinges, pains, tenderness etc from time to time. I keep telling myself its the radiated tissue, not the lumps doing that. Fingers crossed...

soniat-d (153 )    6:07 pm, 16 Jul

 5144.         landylass

Get manuka honey onto it ASAP. Tell the radiologists that you would like some, and they will get it for you immediately. It was awesome on my radiation burns. It is a special medical manuka honey.

dize5 (469 )    6:40 pm, 16 Jul

 5145.         Hi...

Love to you all xoxoxo -Bogey glad you had a great day xo

paulaxx (77 )    8:17 pm, 16 Jul

 5146.      OMG!

Emily fell all the way down our long steep stairs tonight (first time anyone ever has - bit of a miracle really that it hasn't happened before). She had stockings on and simply slipped and lost her balance. I was coming towards her from the top landing so could not do a thing except follow her as she fell all the way down in backwards summersaults :o( Simply awful to watch!?! :o( Thankfully they're all carpeted with good thick underlay, and she didn't hit anything hard. Recovered in 10 mins, more fright than anything (we kept checking for bumps). But it was horrible all the same. They're both in bed now, all is well, thank goodness :o)

soniat-d (153 )    8:21 pm, 16 Jul

 5147.         Awww Paula :o(

Thats no good hun - poor Joshi. Hopefully they can clear all this up in hospital? What does the chest xray show? Anyway, he'll be constantly in my thoughts tonight, sending constantly warm cyber hugs his way and yours. Drive safely won't you? xoxoxoxoxox

soniat-d (153 )    8:24 pm, 16 Jul

 5148.         Paula

I hope everything goes well in hospital and Josh can come home soon, poor wee guy :((

janetmk1 (38 )    8:45 pm, 16 Jul

 5149.         thats awful Sonia

I remember when one of my kids did that, the thud down the stairs when his head hit the steps was awful. Keep a close eye on her for a few days.

janetmk1 (38 )    8:50 pm, 16 Jul

 5150.         paula drive safely

landylass (48 )    9:41 pm, 16 Jul

 5152.         Thanks everyone

Yes of course will check Em often - thankfully there was no big head thump, so she should be fine, but after what happened to Lydia a few months back, I know what to look for! (Two very unusual happenings in this house I might add!) Yep would have loved a stiff drink, but being a good girl ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    9:51 pm, 16 Jul

I think about you everyday and wonder how its all going. Been a sad day today thinking of that baby girl and her family...Life is so not fair at times. Hugs to you Landylass...

5156.     Sounds like you had a nice day too Bogeyi.....

Hope Ryan is feeling ok and was just tired from being busy. Did you make the lemonade scones?? I got all industrious and made Pikelets and we had them hot for lunch...yummy! Went and did a couple of Open Homes, came home and made Vegie soup for tea, and my friend came for tea. Then I did a dummy run on a sale and purchase agreement, and sold her our house!! She said I passed 10/10. I'm going to do a practice on a leasehold one during the week and book in for my final assessment. Cant wait now either, and feel really confident about it all...

joystik (283 )    10:31 pm, 16 Jul

5157.     Hey Boop, talk about a thrashing for the SA Rugby!

That will teach them for being too vile and rough and biting ears in the past! That really is a hammering though. Did you have a good day today? We had a bit of cloud but it really wasnt too cold Beautiful and clear tonight, so there will be a good frost in the morning again, and hopefully another beautiful day.

joystik (283 )    10:33 pm, 16 Jul

5158.     Maewest, I see you are working today? Your

3 days off seem to be the quickest three days ever. You always seem to be going back to work. I have been really flying round today doing stuff. My friend from Sydney phoned earlier today because she had emailed on friday and hadn't had a reply, and decided I must be sick! I had to say, no just too busy doing other things. soniat-d (153 )    9:22 am, 17 Jul

5169.     Good morning ladies...fine and very frosty here

again, so its good to be moving about and doing stuff to keep warm. Hi Josh and Paula, hope you are feeling better and had a good sleep last night, although the hospital is not a place known for good sleeps is it. Hi Sonia, hows wee Emily today?? Any lumps or bumps appeared? Hope she is ok and you too. What have you planned for today?? Hi Ryan and Bogeyi. Hows things with you? Other kids off to school today so it will be a bit quieter at home. Hope you have a lovely sunny day to enjoy like we have here. What are you up to Boop? Are you at the Op Shop today or do you just do that when they are short staffed now. Looks like shorts weather here too later on once the frost has gone....bit chilly just now though..

joystik (283 )    9:25 am, 17 Jul

5170.     Hi Landylass, have a safe trip back to Dunedin....

and watch those roads. So there will only be one week to go after this, is that correct? I guess it has seemed like a long 5 weeks for you. Then I guess you can come home and practice your Br Managers skills?? Hi Kiwikaz, hope you have enjoyed the school holidays and had a good break away. Always good to be backhome again though and back to the normal routine. Have a happy time with your visitor. What are you up to Maewest?? I guess you're working again. Hope you're not working too hard, and still managing to head off the bugs and flu's. Nearly spring again, and was just noticing how much the bulds have come up with a few lovely warm days. Hi Janet and dize, hope you are having a good day and enjoying some lovely winter sunshine too. Take care ladies and see you all later. I've got another busy day planned... have to do more practice contracts...

joystik (283 )    9:31 am, 17 Jul

 5171.         Hi Joystik ;o)

Em's as right as rain thanks, no bumps... she did come to our bed in the middle of the night though - never a prob for us ;o) Shes happy as now. Lydia wet her bed during the night(she never does that), spent rest of night in Em's bed (!) so waiting to see what presents itself with her (hope its not a bladder infection). Girls just gone to school and creche with Daddy so I'm off now to scout scrapbooking stores this morning, with my mobile on in case school/creche calls. Looking for really nice albums, they seem to be thin on the ground... fingers crossed!

soniat-d (153 )    9:38 am, 17 Jul

5172.     Oh Sonia, I'm so pleased she's ok. Always a bit

of a worry when they take a big tumble like that, cos things cn appear later on. Poor Lydia, kids hate wetting their beds, when its not something they normally do. Lauren was never a bed wetter, but did once after a christmas party, and cried and cried over it! Probably the embarassment. You have fun looking for the bits and bobs for your scrapbooking. No word of wee Josh yet, hope he's ok, poor wee man. Just so long as he's right before tuesday and stays fit and well while hes up in Auckland. Such a worry for them too. (((HUGS)))

joystik (283 )    9:53 am, 17 Jul

5173.     Yip you are right Joystik

Back to work at 2pm....but then 3 days off. You are doing so well with your real estate papers. Good on you. So pleased Em is okay today Sonia. What a fright you must have got. Good luck with your shopping today. Good to hear from you Landylass... all the treatments nearly over for you. The treatments are bad enough without having to do all that travelling. Hiya Bettyboop. How's the Coast today? Thick fog here and cold. Hopefully the sun will pop it's head through soon. You are probably still snoozing in your chair!!!!

maewest (76 )    9:57 am, 17 Jul

 5174.     Paula and Joshi

You take care of you too Paula. Take time out for a large cappuccino (double shot!). Looking forward to hearing some positive news from you when I get back in from work tonight.XXXXXX

5186.     Please get better quickly Joshi.........Please....

          Please....please....((((HUGS))))

joystik (283 )    1:07 pm, 17 Jul

 5187.     Hi Joystik

Yes Paula just called me - great to hear her voice :o) Sadly it was to say that his Make-A-Wish trip has to be postponed (no new date as yet) as it looks like he may have Neumocystisis (sp?). We're soooooo gutted for him (He doesn't know yet but I think they're telling him soon) :o( ((((((hugs))))))) to Joshi. Don't worry mate, we'll make sure the trip happens at a later date - we'll keep our diaries open ;o) We're so sad for you, we knew how much you were looking forward to this. At least there's a better chance of meeting Ryan later on, he knows what you must be feeling, as he missed out on Disneyland! You'll get to meet us all soon enough - we can't wait :o) xoxoxoxoxoxox

soniat-d (153 )    1:48 pm, 17 Jul

 5188.     Hi Joystik

joystik (283 )    2:07 pm, 17 Jul

5191.     Hi Volksie, it wasn't me but I think it was

bogeyi (484 )    2:31 pm, 17 Jul

5194.     Sonia do yoiu know what that is

          ????

bogeyi (484 )    2:32 pm, 17 Jul

5195.     They have to yet to determine what the problem

actually is with Josh. Until they know exactly, they cant treat it, and he may even have to go to Christchurch for treatment depending on what it actually is. I was taling to Paula on the phone a few minutes ago. They are so disappointed for Josh and at that stage Paula was waiting for Chris to come in to tell him. But like she said if Ryan could handle not being able to go to Disney land, then Josh will be able to handle this too. But CANCER SUX!!

joystik (283 )    2:43 pm, 17 Jul

 5196.     thanks Joystik for updates

joystik can you give me paulas mob no, will need to use ryans site to get our email addy...

bogeyi (484 )    2:49 pm, 17 Jul

5197.         Nope sorry no idea bogeyi

I was hoping you'd have heard of it!?! Good that you haven't ;o) She said its something that people with aids or cancer can get. I asked if it was treatable, and she said yes. Still not confirmed that that is what it is at this stage, is my understanding. I was so flipped out that she called that I called him Ryan LOL. *blushes*. Sorry Paula ;o) xoxoxox

soniat-d (153 )    2:51 pm, 17 Jul

bogeyi (484 )    3:44 pm, 17 Jul

 5202.      LOL bogeyi ;o)

          Have fun!

soniat-d (153 )    3:59 pm, 17 Jul

5203.           Bogeyi, they think it might be pneumonocystitis,

and if you google that you will see that it easily could be. It is very common in people, particularly children with compromised imunity. When I spoke to her they were still not sure, and if a proper diagnoses couldn't be made then he may have to go to CHCH for a bronchioscopy?? or something like that.

joystik (283 )    4:30 pm, 17 Jul

 5204.           Thanks Joystik

Hey have you all seen Luke's thread "2nd time in my life that time stood still"? Unbelievable!?! The monster leaves noone alone :o( You're welcome to vent in here anytime Luke xoxoxox

soniat-d (153 )    6:01 pm, 17 Jul

 5205.           What are we doing

          down at No. 146. Bump.

dize5 (469 )    7:46 pm, 17 Jul

 5206.        Hi Dize5 ;o)

I'm here as always ;o) OK I had a constructive morning - spend 1.5 hours in a scrapbooking shop pouring through catalogues of albums (and examining their extensive in-store range) and finally decided on the album I want. I was hoping to get the girls different albums, but I only like 1 style! So going to make a personalised storage box for each to go in. Anyway, they're mega-pricey, particularly when you add the pages, embellishments etc, so I got down a list of what I want and am getting 2 stores to quote me to supply the lot. Will be interesting to see if any haggling can be done. Anyway, feels good knowing the colourways I can use (lots of bright cheery colours which is what I like). If only I could buy these things on TM - I am looking ;o) Beaut day here in Auckland again, the ground is starting to dry out for first time in weeks (months?!).

soniat-d (153 )    7:56 pm, 17 Jul

5207.        Who won the laserforce bogeyi?

Bet the boys are pooped! You're a great mum :o)

soniat-d (153 )    7:57 pm, 17 Jul

5208.           Oh Sonia, Yes I saw lukes thread and just posted

what a terrible thing to happen to the poor guy! Like you say, it leaves no one alone does it.

joystik (283 )    8:37 pm, 17 Jul

5209.           The scrapbooking sounds like a lot of fun....

Sonia. Usually stuff like that is quite pricey though isn't it, especially to get something really nice. Yours will be beautiful. I phoned Paula during the afternoon, I just felt so sorry for them all. Such was the build up to this trip and then they're not going. But we agreed there will be a positive, like going in the summer when the weather is warmer for them all. Life is so full of disappointments sometimes isn't it. I made up a wee parcel of things and mailed it off to Josh this afternoon, and hope it cheers him up a bit.

joystik (283 )    8:41 pm, 17 Jul

5210.           Bogeyi we seem to have that Laser Force down......

here too. Might have to check it out sometime. I think it is near to 10 pin bowling place. I'm booking in for my assessment tomorrow! My friend says I'm really good at it so I will take her word and just do it! Went for my afternoon bike ride after 3pm and it was just lovely out there cycling round taking in the scenery, not hardly a car on the raods with me......Dont think you would venture out on a cycle in Auckland woud you?? Too many cars!

joystik (283 )    8:45 pm, 17 Jul

5211.           joystick please give my love to paula

boop2 (106 )    9:07 pm, 17 Jul

 5212.           Sonia

I read through this whole thread the other night - well skimmed it, its so long. One question, I went to your website and saw that you had to pay for your chemo - why?? does the government not pay this? Its left me concerned.

scottygirl_1 (19 )    9:08 pm, 17 Jul

 5213.           Hi Sonia

I turned on the living channel this morning while having breakfast and it was all about scrap booking , was very interesting about 8am.Glad you and yours are okay. Do you think Lydia might have had a bad dream sometimes that will do it? Hugs

5218.           Lauren took another pic of me yesterday and

I think it shows up the colourof the wig better. Have a look... http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/30/24367030_full.jpg Did that do it??

joystik (283 )    9:23 pm, 17 Jul

5219.           It concerned me too Scottygirl!

Normal chemo (the stuff I have first) is available free in the public health system. We paid $5K to have it privately as we were advised we had to do that to get the other stuff (found out later that was b/s)... $30K was for the Taxotere which improved my life expectancy of achieving 10 years from 63% to 70% (when you have young kids, you'll pay anything to improve your odds). The $100K stuff, Herceptin, increases odds 50% but doesn't affect the cancer type I have. I had Southern Cross Ultracare 400 insurance (top notch insurance LOL) and they pay $2,500 a year towards chemo costs. I managed to claim $5K as my annual claim cycle rolled over in the middle of my chemo - one rare lucky break in all this ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    9:26 pm, 17 Jul

5220.           You look fab Joystik ;o)

          :o)

soniat-d (153 )    9:27 pm, 17 Jul

 5221.           hi all

well i didnt win but boy I had fun, what a work out no need to go to the gym just go there instead and much more fun.

bogeyi (484 )    9:27 pm, 17 Jul

5222.           Hi boop, dosent get me down but have

noticed I dont get to sleep very easy at the moment, brain just to busy, to tell you the truth most nights I just want to jump into bed with ryan and cuddle him all night..

bogeyi (484 )    9:30 pm, 17 Jul

 5223.           So Sonia

If I were to be unlucky enough to get breast cancer - or any cancer, will the health dept pay for Chemo? I can't imagine what you are all going through. I come from a long line of cancer sufferers - all my grandparents and my mother. My parters mother died of breast cancer about 20 years ago too.

scottygirl_1 (19 )    9:31 pm, 17 Jul

 5224.           Joystik

You look lovely in you new "DO" What a super colour- it glows!!! Good luck to you all- I read all your posts & keep up with the play. You are an amazing bunch xxx Good luck to one & all with your individual treatments. Hope you don't mind me coming in here but Cancer is very real to me & my family so I follow with interest & compassion. Cheers one & all Sue

persioux (200 )    9:32 pm, 17 Jul

 5225.           good photo joystick

you look so well. I just love the op shop and the people out country it doesn't seem like a chore. We gave the judo club $1000.00 last week to help with their trip away, the ambulance wants some money for new packs for the ambulances will give them the same , the bowling club wants money too paint their fences and the school money for their camp so you can see how good it makes you feel to be able to do this.I think the community would fold with out their volunteers. Those girls on the ambulance are just angels I would feel quite safe in their hands.

boop2 (106 )    9:33 pm, 17 Jul

 5226.           Well scottygirl

If I were you I'd look at special cancer insurance that is around. Joystik - tell scotty your experience with the public system in your case :o/!!! Main this is regular mammograms/ultrasounds - do NOT rely on breast checks alone!!!!!!! But don't spend your life expecting you'll get it, live it well and healthily and stress free and you may well not ;o) Peruse this doc and see how you can improve your odds - there are some excellent tips I wish I'd known http://www.tyler-davies.co.nz/CancerPaperMay06.doc

soniat-d (153 )    9:37 pm, 17 Jul

 5227.           Should've read

soniat-d (153 )    9:38 pm, 17 Jul

5228.           Bogey I guess being such a good mum you

would feel like that hugging him all night. I know you can't compare it but my eldest son used to get asthma and I sat up so many nights with him because I didn't want to leave him. I feel for you bogey hope you get a good sleep tonight after all that exercise. Love boop

boop2 (106 )    9:38 pm, 17 Jul

5229.           Hey, thanks for the living channel tip boop 2 :o)

I'll see if we still get that - we cut back sky majorly (no movies, sport...), but do still have digital...

soniat-d (153 )    9:39 pm, 17 Jul

 5230.           I get a mammogram every year

since I was 45 and I get them on my health insurance along with a breast check and gyny check. I walk every day and try to be healthy. I certainly don't live in fear of cancer but I think its wise to not be ignorant either. My mother died within 3 months of diagnosis and I was 8 months pregnant - I had a daughter, helped alot with my grief.

scottygirl_1 (19 )    9:41 pm, 17 Jul

5231.        We'll excuse you for jumping in bed with him

bogeyi ;o) I do it too often with Em LOL! Ryan is so adorable, I wanted to hug him up while I was with you guys, Josh had better watch out when he comes up here ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    9:42 pm, 17 Jul

5232.           Which health insurance do you have out of

interest Scotty? We're looking at changing the girls plans as so annoyed with Southern Cross (I've been with them since I was 4 months old!)

soniat-d (153 )    9:44 pm, 17 Jul

 5242.           Bogeyi

Do you think he got over excited tonight? Or is he worrying? Will he fall asleep in front of tv?

janetmk1 (38 )    10:11 pm, 17 Jul

5243.           janetmk1 dont think its from over excited

as its been happening most nights lately, once asleep hes ok just getting there, he falls asleep then jerks awake and gives himself a fright.

bogeyi (484 )    10:13 pm, 17 Jul

5245.           Sounds like his mind is working overtime...

only reason I asked is my Ryan does that a lot, hes forever coming in after hes gone to bed. He sleep walks, jerks awake, yells in his sleep. I hope your lad settles soon, wish I had a magic answer.....let me know if you find one :))

janetmk1 (38 )    10:21 pm, 17 Jul

 5246.           thanks janetmk1

bogeyi (484 )    10:23 pm, 17 Jul

5247.        I used to have that too when I was a kid!

I've heard there's a name for it (can't remember it of course) but its in that transition stage from light into heavy sleep. I'd suddely feel like the floor had given way and I was suddenly falling and I'd wake in a huge jump. Happened often back then - still remember it like it was yesterday. Poor boys - my sympathies ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    10:27 pm, 17 Jul

 5248.      Hi everyone ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    8:42 am, 18 Jul

 5249.         Good Morning

How do you feel after your vit c Sonia? My dad was a huge believer in Vit c, he swore by it for everything and was always healthy.(alzheimers took him 2 years ago)I am seriously considering it for myself and one of my sons. DO most gps nurses do it or will I have to go somewhere else?

janetmk1 (38 )    9:11 am, 18 Jul

 5250.         Cancer Sux big time!!

5251.          Hi everyone

So sad to read about Josh when I got in last night. I hope Paula can feel all our (((HUGS))). So sad they won't be getting their trip until late. Poor Josh will be so disappointed. But it WILL happen not too far in the future. Hi Janet..still haven't been to buy a CD Rom. Will get around to it later in the week. I agree Vit C is a great healer and preventative. Let's hope it does it's stuff for you Sonia. It must be helping. How are your veins holding up? A friend of mind does a lot of scrapbooking and I think she buys a lot from overseas via the internet.

maewest (76 )    9:28 am, 18 Jul

 5252.          Kwikaz so sorry

to hear things have not been flash with you overnight. It is a roller coaster ride...not one which we choose to be on. I was talking to a couple yesterday..he has had major surgery for oesophagus cancer. Has lost heaps of weight, but overall he wasn't looking too bad but....his wife looked really stressed and upset. It is just so hard for family dealing with it all. The patient is focused on what they have to do and where they are going and the people around them are along for the ride. Don't know that this is coming out quite right, but I'm sure you will understand what I mean. (((HUGS))) to you

maewest (76 )    9:35 am, 18 Jul

 5253.          Joystik your wig

looks amazing. What a fantastic colour. You look a million dollars. Good luck with your assessment today. I'm sure you will fly through it. Good luck XX. Hiya Bettyboop. Sounds like you are doing great work with your charity shop. There are a couple of charity shops in Rangiora which I visit often. Great bargains to be had! Would love to do something like that one day. At the moment my days off are precious. The for is starting to lift here now, Boy it was thick last night when I was driving home. It was okay until I drove over the Waimak Bridge then couldn't see in front of my nose...hate that!!You have a lovely day XX

maewest (76 )    9:47 am, 18 Jul

 5254.          maewest

thanks. know what you mean, watching them lose weight is hard and you just wonder how much more they can take. hopefully he will be feeling better after a sleep? just gave him a massage and hes gone of to sleep. :)

kiwikaz3 (8 )    10:06 am, 18 Jul

5255.          It must be so hard

for you. I do hope he is feeling better when he wakes up. Nothing quite like a massage. I remember when I was going through chemo last year, my sister came to stay for a month and massaged by bald head every night before I went to bed. It felt so yum. I think I remember reading that you are Landylass's niece? Have I got that right?

maewest (76 )    10:11 am, 18 Jul

 5256.          maewest

yep i am landylass neice :)

5258.          life is so bloody cruel

sorry janet hope he is okay when he wakes. I just popped in to see how joshi was. Poor Ryan too ,I sometimes do that now if I am stressed wake myself up with such a start.Hope you ended up having a good sleep Ryan.Hugs for your wonderful mum. Hi maewest, yes it is a good cause. I just found out the young boy we sponsered in judo has won a gold medal in Tahiti so how's that coming from little old Granity. Take care.

boop2 (106 )    10:45 am, 18 Jul

5259.          Oh no ... poor wee Joshi

How devestating for you all that you have to postpone your trip. You will get to do it soon though I'm sure ... so Joshi - get well soon okay buddy!! I'm constantly thinking of you Paula and Joshi. Heaps and heaps of hugs for you all!

meridian1 (295 )    12:53 pm, 18 Jul

 5260.          Bogeyi,

Im also thinking of you guys constantly to! I hope you are all well with the transplant date getting closer! Big hugs for Ryan!!! Sending love to you all!

meridian1 (295 )    12:56 pm, 18 Jul

 5261.          Hi Janetmk ;o)

Well its funny, the infusion takes a good couple of hours (I go twice a week) and I actually find the infusion hard going, think my veins are stuffed from the chemo etc, so I'm not comfortable, but everyone else there seems completely unbothered by it, so don't read too much into my experience ;o) So I feel tired and achy at the end but about 5-10 mins later I feel fine. So today I woke up with a cough and it got worse and worse and I lost my voice by end of treatment - I was looking like I'd have to retire to bed!?! Well, an hour later, voice is back, cough is gone, feel great ;o) So its good powerful stuff! I'm still working up the the full dose, I'm expecting that once I get up to there, I won't get coughs to start with ;o) Not everyone does them - if you tell me which suburb of Wellington you're in/would prefer, I can get my clinic to look up their database and tell you someone local that does it - no probs ;o)

soniat-d (153 )    1:02 pm, 18 Jul

 5262.          Hi Sonia

The Vit C sounds great! I'm please that you are feeling really good about it. You must be disappointed that Paula's trip has had to be postponed. I know how much you were looking forward to it!

meridian1 (295 )    1:11 pm, 18 Jul

 5263.          Aw joystick ...

your wig looks so pretty. YOU look so pretty, and so well! Good luck with your final assesment. Would you mind giving Paula my love if you do see her at Kew? Thanks a million!

meridian1 (295 )    1:16 pm, 18 Jul

 5264.          Hi Maewest

How's it going? Have you sorted out your CD rom yet? (no bruises on your knee?). Cant believe how quickly this thread has grown even since the 5000 was reached. Did you see the post from my sister? I have told her all about you people. Bogeyi, her FIL (a regular donor) has the same blood type as Ryan. I'm gonna tell everyone I know to donate blood whenever they can! Love to everyone!

meridian1 (295 )    1:23 pm, 18 Jul

 5265.          Hi there Meridian

Getting my CD Rom sorted tomorrow. Rang a local computer whizz. Getting a DVD Rom thingee installed. He charges $20 for installation. I'm happy to pay that...one less stress!!!And yip...my knee is fine!!! lol. Hey Boop, I bet you felt proud when that young boy won in Tahiti. Well done! Boy it is still really foggy and cold here. Have just brought the washing in and put in front of the fire. Better get some housework done shortly...the cat brought a young hare in yesterday while we were at work. First I knew was at 1am this morning. Was just going to bed when the cat came screaming out of the front bedroom chasing what I thought was a squealing rat!! They darted between my legs. Found the poor little hare hiding behind the couch!! Dropped it over the fence into the paddock and it has gone this morning. Phew!! Will have to pull the beds out and see what sort of mess I can find!!

maewest (76 )    2:08 pm, 18 Jul

5266.       Yes Meridian I'm so disappointed, mainly for Joshi

but for all of us really. I was looking forward to getting out on the boat again too - its been too long! Hope Josh and Paula are getting on OK today (((((hugs)))))

soniat-d (153 )    3:30 pm, 18 Jul

5267.          hey guys i txted paula to see how she was

they are doing ok, flying to chch tomorrow.

bogeyi (484 )    3:33 pm, 18 Jul

5268.          Hi ladies, its me,Late again, but better late than

Another busy day in this house, as usual. Made the appointment for the contact Assessment for Real Estate and it is 1pm on Tuesday, after Oncology Clinic. So I have a wee bit of time to brush up on the final bits and pieces. Cloudy and cold here today and I've got a sniffly nose - just hoping its not the start of something nasty! More vitamin C required perhaps?? I had a txt from Paula earlier, and Josh was going for a CT scan and the plan is for them to fly up to CHCH sometime tomorrow. I am unsure if they know what exactly is the problem yet....

joystik (283 )    4:09 pm, 18 Jul

5269.          Hi Sonia, how many Vit C transfusions have you....

had now? How long does it take to get up to the full size dose? Good job your cough disappeared, dont want you sick too. Hope the day is better there than here. I used to "fall" in my sleep at night too,and remember it like yesterday too, but haven't done that for a long time now. Perhaps its something that you do and remember very vividly when you are a child? Its a terrible feeling, and you certainly wake up with a jolt.

joystik (283 )    4:19 pm, 18 Jul

5270.          Hi Boeyi, Hope Ryan is feeling OK today. Poor

wee man will have such a lot running round in his head. I have empathy for him and know how I felt going in to hospital for the proceedures that I have had, and know that he knows only too well whats in store for him cos he's been there before. Does he sleep in the day time when he hasn't slept much at night?? I never can, just get more tired, and then sometimes that makes it even harder to sleep. I been thinking about you guys heaps and hope its all runs smoothly for you this time. Hugs to you all.....

joystik (283 )    4:22 pm, 18 Jul

5271.          hi Joystik, Ryans good today

at hospital tomorrow for bloods will need a transfusion before he goes to surgery on Thursday. I feel like crap this afternoon feel all stuffed up in the head, taken aspro and will get the biggest dose of Vit C tomorrow in fact might go down now if I can get achy bones off the couch.

bogeyi (484 )    4:25 pm, 18 Jul

5272.          Hi Busy Boop, you are right about volunteers..

in these small communities. Every time the fire siren goes here, the whole town wakes up and all those men drop what they are doing and go, just because they are happy to serve the community in that way. We would be in Dire straights if they didnt wouldnt we? Op shopping is great fun. We get some really nice stuff through the clothing shop here because it comes down from Queenstown apparently, so there are often lots of labels and posh designer things! When we moved here I took probably at least 20 banan box's of clothing and all sorts up there for them to sell, and they were really stoked. Then I discovered Trade Me! However I was pleased for them to have it to make some money, cos there is always someone wanting a handout isnt there. Good on you sponsered bloke for his achievements.

joystik (283 )    4:27 pm, 18 Jul

5273.          Yeah Bogeyi, my head is really stuffy just now

too. Hope its not somedirty Bot thats going about, or I might as well have gone to the 21st with all the young people on Saturday night. I should almost be Not neutropenic by now hopefuly, so might feel better tomorrow. I think this happened last time too? Shame I cant remember 3 weeks ago!

joystik (283 )    4:30 pm, 18 Jul

5274.          Hey Maewest, your cat is a bit of a character

bringing in a hare?? He must be a fast cat cos those things run like the clappers!! Our lovely pedigree Abyssinian is the most terrific hunter, but always brings things in still alive, and calls me to take them from him....ALIVE! Never kills things, but sometimes let them go just before you are ready! One night I got 4 live mice in 35 minutes! I have to take hold of the tail, and then say 'let it go for Mum' and he lets it go!! Then I have to get rid of it! Oh what I have to endure for this lovely cat. The other one we had, also an Abyssinian, used to bring in spiders, crickets, huhu beetles, lizards, and any other bugs and beetles he could find. He would have them completewly in his mouth and would open his mouth and let them run out onto the floor.....not always pleasant. I must admit I like mice more than spiders etc...

joystik (283 )    4:36 pm, 18 Jul

5275.          Hi kiwikaz, sorry you are having a bit of a rough.

run at the moment too. Seems like there is a bit of rough stuff about just now. Glad you were able to go to school today for your children. They do love that. I used to go to everything whe we lived closer to the school and Lauren was younger, but there not so much to go to once they are at college. Lauren spent many years getting picked on an bullied by other children too, and its most unpleasant. One boy up in Nelson found that I became most unpleasant, when he persisted in his gross behaviour, and soon stipped once I started on him! The school up there wasn't overly helpful either which was a shame. There is enough to deal with in daily life for lots of kids with out the extras! Thinking of you all lots....take care...

joystik (283 )    4:41 pm, 18 Jul

5276.          Hi janet, scotty and meridian, nice to see you...

thanks for your nice comments about the wig. I think it looks good and its ok to wear too. I put it on in the moring and take it off when I go to bed, and it is really quite comfortable. I'm quite used to it now and will need it for a few months to come, so I guess its a good thing it is ok. Must go and get dinner now....see you all again soon....Hugs to you all...

joystik (283 )    4:49 pm, 18 Jul

 5277.          Hi Joystik

Another big and busy week for...one more down!! Hope your sniffles don't come to anything. You don't need that just now. I have just found where the wee hare was hiding. Behind a chest of drawers in spare bedroom. I'd say it had been there for a couple of days going by the mess. All cleaned up now...the room smells of dettol! Yip, birds, lizards etc etc. Yuck!

maewest (76 )    4:50 pm, 18 Jul

 5278.          Bogey, Ryan & Tyler

A huge week for you all too. My love and thoughts are with you all. It will be good when it is all over. Shame that you have a cold just to top it all off. Yip Vit C, Vit C, VitC!!You take care bogey XX

maewest (76 )    4:53 pm, 18 Jul

5279.          Yeah ... take care bogeyi

Sorry to hear that you are feeling aweful. You have so much on your plate right now. Please tell Tyler that I think he ROCKS!!!! And tell Ryan I think he is one tough little dude. I bet he is getting good at the Spiderman game.

boop2 (106 )    5:24 pm, 18 Jul

 5285.          Hi joystick

I don't know a lot about roses I put a lot of mushroom compost on today and have an idea roses don't like them. I wanted to get two standard iceburgs for each side of the front door. What do you think?( one each side)

boop2 (106 )    5:28 pm, 18 Jul

 5286.          Thanks bogey

maewest (76 )    5:30 pm, 18 Jul

5287.          sonia glad your coughs gone

What is your next step with the oncologist or have you finished everything? Did you check out the scrap booking on Skye?

boop2 (106 )    5:30 pm, 18 Jul

 5288.          Sonia

Thanx Sonia , I live in Tawa. I have constantly low iron and the vit c would really help heaps to absorb the iron suppliments I take.

janetmk1 (38 )    5:34 pm, 18 Jul

5289.          Maewest

That really made me laugh hearing what your cat brought in coz our 3 cats are always bringing in live birds and mice. Then they chase them round the house and I chase the cats and my sons chase me coz they want me to let the cats have their catches. One even cornered a stoat/ferret a few weeks ago.

janetmk1 (38 )    5:44 pm, 18 Jul

 5290.          hey soniat-d

do u remember me from ages ago? lol... I found a lump in my breast (nov 05) and went to the docs she told me to wait a month and if its still there to go back well I didn't go back till may this year (different doc) said he found another lump...well anyways I have a breast Ultrasound on thursday. Just wondering if you know anything about these? memba im only 20 (was 19 when i talked to ya :) )

wagon_styles (215 )    5:44 pm, 18 Jul

 5291.       Yes Wagonstyles!

I certainly do remember you! I started a thread back in January asking after you but.... nada! Naughty you leaving it so long! Good luck with the ultrasound - yes I swear by them, well with the cancer I have anyway, cancer shows up loud and clear on those (if thats what it is) - my lumps look like big black filled in circles. Try not to panic - most lumps are benign, but please get it checked out ASAP, get it over and done with ;o) GOOD LUCK! And thanks for posting :o)

soniat-d (153 )    5:52 pm, 18 Jul

 5292.          Oh and wagonstyles,

please pop us in and let us know the ultrasound results, either way - I like the happy endings :o)

soniat-d (153 )    5:53 pm, 18 Jul

 5293.          Ok Janet ;o)

I'll try and remember to ring them tomorrow - please remind me if you hear nothing by say 2pm ;o) No probs!

soniat-d (153 )    5:54 pm, 18 Jul

 5294.          Hi Joystick ;o)

Hey thanks for the lovely surprise parcel for the girls - how totally sweet of you! They were thrilled! Actually the respite from the cold was short lived was great for a few hours - now back to awful again :o/!!! Nothing compared to my chemo experiences though ;o) I should be reaching my max dose Friday or next Tuesday. Its supposed to get up to 300 in my system - last friday I was at 205.

soniat-d (153 )    5:59 pm, 18 Jul

 5295.          hehe will do

yeah I had a 2 month wait after the doc sent the letter off but its ok, kinda freaky tho. I wish you all the best. I will start a thread on thursday when I get home let ya know what happened. so if is benign it wont show up as black? thanx :)

wagon_styles (215 )    5:59 pm, 18 Jul

5296.       Hope you feel better bogeyi ;o)

I take 4-6 1g tablets of VitC every day orally, on top of the IV stuff - you can't really take too much they say - side effect of too much is getting the runs, but no signs of that with me yet ;o) Hope you improve soon :o)

soniat-d (153 )    6:01 pm, 18 Jul

5297.          Doesn't necessarily mean its cancer if its black

is my understanding, though with me it always has been... They'll tell you. If it looks suspicious they'll take a needle biopsy - sounds awful its actually a doddle, again taking biopsy doen't mean is the monster, but you will have to wait a horrible few days for the results ;o) Please post in here too - I often only have time to check out this one thread these days - busy busy busy! I would like to hear what they say! Thanks :o)

soniat-d (153 )    6:05 pm, 18 Jul

 5298.          thankyou so much

you can always put my mind at ease :) I will definatly post in here then. Better go look after son now :) take care

I can't believe the bad luck of it all, and yes he's a stunning looking kid. He may have a battle ahead of him, but I'm sure with a smile like that he will win :o) (((((hugs))))) to Luke and his family too xoxoxox

5314.      I think so too Sonia. Poor wee man lost his ....

Mummy too, how awful. Luke seems to be a wonderful dad with the 3 of them. It wouldn't be easy would it. I wouldn't fancy raising one child on my own let alone 3. I wonder how Twinkies and Briyanna are getting on? Theres nothing in her journal or guestbook. Hopefully no news is good news..

5316.         Boop, sorry it took me so long to reply to you....

Roses are big feeders, so I'm sure mushroom compost would go down a treat. I think One Icebery ecah side of your front door would look fabulous. Be careful not to plant them too close to the path though. My neighbours have 4 standard roses planted up each side of their path, and when they are flowering, you can't actually walk up the path, because they are planted way too close. Happy gardening!! Abyssinian cats are just beautiful despite the live prey they bring in!! See you tomorrow.....
